Quarterdeck 05.28.09

Hello Everyone,

The Pentecost weekend is soon upon us and our thoughts begin to turn to the meaning of first fruits in our spiritual preparation for the Kingdom of God. Pentecost is a pivotal festival in God’s plan. It falls in the middle of the cycle of days that picture God’s perfect plan of salvation. Here we focus on the Church and its key role in preparing a people for the great fall harvest. Here God places those called today, in advance of those to come n the greater fall harvest, to do battle for the Kingdom in the midst of an alien world. God gives us the power of His Spirit to resist and surmount the environment and in the process developing the mindset and character of the divine family. It is a beautiful festival.

Services will be here in Indy on Sunday, 11 AM and 2:30 PM start time.

Peter and Terri Eddington will be our guests for the weekend and Peter will be giving a sermon on Pentecost. Their son Matthew will be marrying Tiffany Zimmerman on July 12. I thought this weekend would be a good time for the families to be together. It will be nice have another young couple come together in the congregation. We have a number of young adults who add a great deal to the church. We are blessed with more than our share in this area.

We look forward to seeing all you this weekend.

Quarterdeck 05.14.09

Hello Everyone,

It has been a soggy spring. My backyard has water standing in it which keep me from mowing the grass. I don’ mind not mowing but will may have to bail when it is next cut. Between all the travel and meetings and the weather I have been unable to do much work in the yard this spring. I hope it all dries out so I can plant some tomatoes.

I have a couple of prayer requests this week.

Beverly Rockwell from Bloomington is asking for prayer for her brother and former husband. Here is what she wrote:

“I have just been notified that my ex-husband, Elton Rockwell, has been hospitalized with a mass in his stomach.  They will be doing surgery on him in a few days to determine if it is cancerous.  Please ask the church members to pray for him.  Also, I have been advised that my brother in Wisconsin has only a few months to live.  I would appreciate prayers that his pain is eased”.

Rollie Olmsted is in Wishard hospital with blood clots in a leg. Surgery will be performed next Tuesday to remove them.

Indy Ladies Book Club

The next Indy Ladies Book Club will be held this Sabbath. Kris Swanson will be hosting the book,“The Prince: the Story of Jonathan” by Francine Rivers. Secret Sister forms will be available before services to be filled out and turned in at the meeting. If you will be unable to attend this week’s meeting but want to take part in the program, please fill out your form and turn it in to Debbie McNeely. A form will be drawn and forwarded to you. Also don’t forget your finger foods for snacks.

Feast of Pentecost

Pentecost services will be held at our hall in Greenwood for both congregations on May 31. We will be having a guest speaker, Peter Eddington, from Cincinnati. We”ll have two services at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM.

Feast of Tabernacles Early Housing Instructions

For those that qualify for early housing for the Feast of Tabernacles you may begin making reservations on Tuesday, May 26.

The general membership begins on Sunday, June 7.

If you have a need to make early housing reservations, please consult with your pastor or festival adviser to review the guidelines.

For those transferring to Bend / Redmond, Branson, Jekyll Island, Kerrville, and Steamboat Springs, there are some hotels which require a pass code for early reservations.   Please see your festival adviser or pastor for the pass codes for Bend / Redmond, Branson, Jekyll Island, Kerrville, and Steamboat Springs.

A final thought…

In my bi-weekly World News and Prophecy letter today I listed a summer reading list. Five books are suggested. If you are interested in reading the letter you can do so here. I have read most of the books and can highly recommend them.

Debbie and I will be in Indy for services this Sabbath.  See you then.

Quarterdeck 05.08.09

Hello Everyone,

Debbie and I returned last night from the GCE and Council meetings. It has been a full week of meetings and I will be going into a retreat with the Council beginning Sunday evening and going through Tuesday.

Melvin Rhodes and Scott Ashley were selected as new members of the Council. Richard Thompson and Bill Eddington were returned as well. On the last day of the meetings Roy Holladay was selected as the new Chairman of the Council. He will begin his term on July 1.

Feast Transfers- Panama City and Snowshoe, West Virginia.

Below is an announcement from the home office pertaining to the both feast sites named above. Please note that we will be firmly adhering to requests to reduce the number of transfers to these two sites from our congregations. We will need to reduce our list of those desiring to transfer to Panama City by 25% (Indianapolis only). The Snowshoe list must be reduced by 40% (Fort Wayne only)

If you attended Panama City the last two years you should select a second site. At this time I see no reason for exceptions to this.

Please notify Carl Rothenbacher and Bob Hancock of your decision.

I realize this will cause disappointment but it is necessary.  Any request for exceptions must be channeled through me.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Verbal Announcement for Sabbath, May 9

The current economy or cautious concern about the future has impacted festival registration to the greatest degree in our history.  Fewer U.S. members are transferring internationally and Hawaii is at the lowest registration since UCG formed.
International registration has traditionally reduced the numbers in the U.S. allowing room for more transfer requests, but not this year.
Festival registration has been tabulated and unfortunately some members applying to Panama City Beach and Snowshoe, WV will need to make a second choice. Steamboat Springs has its largest registration ever too.
We need to deny some transfer requests to both Panama City Beach and Snowshoe and with Steamboat Springs we are going to warn transfers that we will definitely be setting up an overflow room this year and your attendance might warrant sitting in an overflow room on some days.
We still have room in all other US and Canadian sites, but Branson and Jekyll Island will be closed after the denials are processed.
Hawaii has much availability and airfare might be affordable and housing prices have not increased there and in some cases there are significantly lower rates than last year.
We realize some members will be greatly disappointed, but these are needed actions.
If you applied to transfer to either Panama City Beach or Snowshoe, please see your pastor or festival adviser after services today for further instructions.
If you applied to transfer to any other U.S. or Canadian sites you have been approved.  If you have applied outside of the US and Canada, information will come directly from those sites.
Those who qualify for early housing can begin reservations on Monday, May 26 and the general membership can begin housing reservations on Sunday, June 7.  See your festival adviser or pastor for guidelines on early housing qualifications.

Services Tomorrow

I will be traveling up to Fort Wayne tomorrow with Robin Webber in tow. Paul Kieffer will speak in Indy. We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow.

Take care,
